Eid is a time of happiness, family gatherings, and returning to one’s hometown. Every year during the Eid holidays in Bangladesh, millions of people leave big cities like Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their families in villages. Because of the huge number of travelers, trains, buses, and launches become extremely crowded. As a result, many people are forced to travel on the roofs of trains, risking their lives just to reach home for Eid.

During the Eid rush, railway stations become overcrowded and getting a train ticket becomes very difficult. That is why many passengers climb onto the train roof and travel in dangerous conditions. Even though Bangladesh Railway warns passengers every year not to travel on train roofs, the situation repeats every Eid season due to excessive passenger pressure.

The situation becomes even more dangerous when it rains. Sitting on the roof of a moving train in the rain is extremely risky. There are dangers such as strong winds, bridges, electric lines, and sudden movements of the train. A small mistake can cause a serious accident. Despite all these risks, people still travel this way because Eid means family, parents, loved ones, and hometown memories. Emotional attachment often becomes stronger than fear.

Every year, photos and videos of Eid journeys go viral on social media. Some people see these scenes as emotional and a symbol of people’s love for their families, while others see them as unsafe and a result of poor transportation management. In reality, Eid travel in Bangladesh is a mixture of happiness, suffering, excitement, and risk.

Everyone wants to celebrate Eid with their loved ones. But safety is also very important. The true joy of Eid is not just reaching home, but reaching home safely.

Eid Mubarak to everyone.
