In Faridpur, allegations have emerged that a widow was taken to a residential hotel and raped after being lured with promises of arranging a “Family Card” and “Widow Allowance Card.”

According to reports, the victim is a resident of Faridpur municipality. After her husband passed away nearly 10 years ago, she had been surviving by working in other people’s homes. Hoping to receive government support, she contacted a man she knew. The accused allegedly promised to help her obtain a Family Card and Widow Allowance benefits.

On April 2, he reportedly asked her to go with him to the Upazila Parishad office. However, instead of taking her there, he allegedly took her to a residential hotel in the Goalchamot area of the city, where she was confined and raped.

Later, the woman received medical treatment and remained admitted for several days at the OCC Center of Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

After completing treatment, she filed a case at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Although the accused denied the allegations, police said preliminary investigations found evidence supporting the complaint. Reports also state that RAB-10 later arrested the accused, Sujon Sheikh, during an operation in Dhaka.
